Swiftpoint Mouse Reviews

september 15 2010 review by computerworld

Swiftpoint Mouse The Swiftpoint optical mouse is a little device that looks like a work of Art. This tiny, lightweight mouse might be an alternative for touchpads.

It uses a small USB "dock", with wireless receiver, that extends app. half an inch when inserted into your laptop's USB port.

The device was tested with an ASUS EeePC 1005PE netbook. This mouse is easy to operate and better for long computing sessions than the usual touchpad. The buttons are well placed as ius the use the scroll wheel.

Some downsides: There's a Parking Accessory, an adhesive film that fits over the wrist rest of your laptop, with a small magnetic square that lets you "park" the Swiftpoint in the middle of it. Unfortunately, while this Parking Accessory could be useful for a larger laptop, it doesn't work for a small netbook. In addition, the Swiftpoint's price is very high.

Swiftpoint Mouse It's no secret that one of our major gripes with some of today's laptops are their wonky and uncomfortable touchpads. The minuscule mouse that's reviewed is designed to be used in place of a laptop's touchpad, the idea is that you can still use your laptop anywhere, on your lap while sitting on a chair, but unlike other mice, you don't need to find a surface to rest it on.

USB receiver:

The mouse comes with a small USB receiver that's adorned with a magnetic piece that attaches to the bottom for charging purposes. You can just affix the mouse to the dongle, but depending on the laptop you're using, it can end up blocking other ports. It doesn't take too long to charge this device.

Conclusion:

Swiftpoint has made a mouse that's got the portability and efficiency of a touchpad. The Swiftpoint is a solid alternative for the touchpad. Those looking for a mobile mouse with a bit more functionality will be best suited by a device like Logitech's Anywhere Mouse MX which has three extra buttons and a wider base. The price however is very expensive.
